The priority assignment of DGGV is to support geosciences in research, teachings, economy, administration and publication of scientific findings. DGGV imparts ideas and topics of basic and applied research, offers expertise for public and economic matters and supports the international cooperation between scientific organizations and societies.
Active exchange of ideas supports the vitality of the scientific community. Young and seasoned geoscientists will profit by this exchange. DGGV supports this exchange by:
- Organization of scientific meetings and conferences
- Support of workshops and compact coursesOrganization of field trips
- Editing and publishing of scientific journals (IJES, ZDGG and monograph)
A particular task of DGGV is supporting young and highly skilled junior scientists from all disciplines in geology through scholarships. DGGV also awards outstanding scientific work by various awards.
DGGV represents the interests of German geologists and assumes important tasks when dealing with public, media and political bodies. DGGV commits oneself to report about changes in German geosciences and to participate in active debates. When doing this, DGGV is acting in close cooperation with Berufsverband Deutscher Geowissenschaftler (BDG).
