M-Fed 25

Dear microbialite community,

We cordially inform you that registration and abstract submission for the M-FED 25 (Microbialites – Formation, Evolution, Diagenesis) conference from September 30th to October 3rd 2025 in Hannover, Germany, is now open until the 15th of April 2025!

We provide a scientific program with four key sessions covering the broad scientific research areas targeting microbialites and related topics:

  1. Biofilms and their interaction with the environment

Keynote: Erika Kothe, University of Jena

  1. Microbialites through deep time: unique archives for environmental reconstructions

Keynote: Johanna Marin-Carbonne, University of Lausanne

  1. Microbialites in variable geologic settings: from continents to the deep sea

Keynote: Stanley Awramik, UC Santa Barbara

  1. Mutual impact of microbialite mineralogy and environment

Keynote: Gernot Arp, University of Göttingen

Registration fees are 300 € (250 € for students) for in-person participation and 50 € for online participation. In-person fees include a field trip to the stromatolites of the UNESCO Geopark Heeseberg where Kalkowsky first coined the term “stromatolite”.

Please note that the maximum number of in-person participants is limited by the location safety guidelines to 100 (First come, first serve!).

To register for the M-FED25, please send us your name, invoice address, status (regular or student with proof of student status), type of attendance (in-person/ online), and abstract if you want to present your work to mfed25.organisation@gmail.com. You will receive an invoice with bank details of the conference to pay your registration fee and a confirmation once the money has arrived at the MFED25 bank account. If you also want to apply for an early career-supporting travel grant, please send us your letter of motivation to this email address.
