30 Geotops 3D

The journey to Germany's most beautiful geosites begins! The first geosite we present is the Teufelstisch in the Rhineland-Palatinate. This table-shaped rock consists of Triassic sandstones (Buntsandstein, 252.5-246 million years ago), which were uplifted and eroded during the Palaeogene (about 48 million years ago). Due to differences in the resistance of the sediment layers to erosion, the Devil's Table remains in it's current shape.
