Heidelberg University – Institute of Earth Sciences
At the Institute of Earth Sciences one working group has its focus in sedimentary geology: The working group “Sedimentology & Marine Paleoenvironmental Dynamics” works on Meso- and Cenozoic marine sediments with a particular focus on faunal and geochemical analyses.
Currently the following research topics are covered in Heidelberg:
- marine sedimentology and paleoenvironmental dynamics
- Meso- and Cenozoic paleoclimate and paleoceanography investigations of ODP/IODP and Meteor-based marine cores
- paleoclimatic and paleoceanographic interpretation of Meso- and Cenozoic land sections
Analytical equipment in the field of sedimentary geology:
- Fritsch Analysette 22 (grain-size analysis)
- ThermoFisher MAT253plus with Kiel IV carbonate preparation (stable isotopes)
- Logitech LP50 (thin sections)
- color-spektrometer
Regional focus of sedimentary geology research
marine research (mainly Atlantic and Pacific), terrestrial sections in Europe, South America, and Asia
Study offer
B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Geosciences
Service
Grain-size analysis; thin section preparation; stabile isotope analysis (O, C)
