Goethe University Frankfurt – Institute of Geosciences
At the Institute of Geosciences three working groups have their focus in sedimentary geology: Sedimentology (Voigt), Biosedimentology (Gischler), Phase Analysis and Granulometry of fine-grained sediments (Petschick). Our research focus centers around the response of marine and terrestrial sedimentary systems to Mesozoic and Cenozoic climate change from orbital to tectonic timescales.
Currently the following research topics are covered in Frankfurt:
• Geochemistry of climate sensitive archives: Main and trace elements, stable and non-traditional isotopes in
1) oceanic, shelfal and coastal sediments,
2) terrestrial sediments (mudflat to lacustrine),
3) cold water carbonates,
4) tropical carbonates, and
5) shells and skeletons of organisms
• Orbital forcing of sedimentary processes
• Integrated stratigraphy (bio- and chemostratigraphy, time series analysis)
• Land-sea interactions in coastal and shelfal sediments
• Modern and ancient tropical reefs
Analytical equipment in the field of sedimentary geology
• Sedimentary Geochemistry (ICP-OES, XRF)
• Phase Analytics (XRD)
