University of Leipzig – Institute for Geophysics and Geology
At the Institute for Geophysics and Geology at the University of Leipzig two working groups have their focus in carbonate petrography (Brachert) and clay mineralogy (Ehrmann).
Currently the following research topics are covered in Leipzig
Palaeoclimatology
Analytical equipment in the field of sedimentary geology
- Mass spectrometer (IRMS, stable O and C isotopes)
- X-ray laboratory (X-ray diffraction, densitometry)
- Grain size analyses (sieving, Atterberg, laser particle analyser)
- Microscopy
- Geochemical laboratory (element analyser)
- General sedimentological laboratory (saw, thin sectioning, ovens, cool storage room for sediment cores etc.)
